EDM #44, 10, & 245 and CED-Connecting

This doodle cat emerged from a page full of lightly drawn shapes, lines, and swirls in my journal. It is for the EDM challenge #44-Draw an animal. I call him Cat-Man 3, and I like him a lot.

These little pink ladies would like to remind you that it's breast cancer awareness month. As you see in this entry and the next two, I've been playing with my hands, the ink pad, and a sharpie. Don't mind the smudged thumb print at the bottom. She was just passing by. ;) This is EDM #245-Draw your choice

Best Friends Forever (there will be writing on the bottom) and my partial right hand print. The whole print is actually there, but only half scanned. Was just playing around.

Someone on EDM shared a site with a doodle hands project and I loved it. Of course, I had to try one. This one was done quickly in my sketchbook with sharpie pens. It was a lot of fun, and it's my #10-Draw your hand. My hands are not small and delicate, but they have always served me well. It's kind of hard to tell, but the leaves are green. I toyed with the idea of putting a couple of mounds of red on the palette and decided not to. Looking at it on here I think it might have added to it. Oh, well!

The background on this page in my journal was made by using leftover fluid acrylic paint. I had some left from a canvas project and didn't want to waste it, so I swirled it on the pages. After it dried, I stamped the linoleum block print onto it. Can you see the heron like swirls behind the swan? I may add more to this when something comes to me. Until then, I'll enjoy it like it is.

I thought I'd show you how I'm decorating my journal cover. It's not a new idea, but one morning I was having a banana for breakfast, and I peeled off the sticker. For lack of a better place to put it, I stuck it on the front of my art journal. I did this for a few mornings in a row, and I like it. It reminds me of an old suitcase with the travel stickers all over it. Anyway, I just felt like sharing it with you.

The Creative Every Day challenge this month is connecting, and I've been connecting with both new and old friends, new art ideas, challenges, and experiments, emotions, pets, and many other things. Lots of connecting and re-connecting in both art and life. It's a good thing!

I haven't been working on the 40 inchies project for the last few days, but when I get back to it, I hope to finish it, and I will share it then.

Sheet of 40 Inchies Progression...

This is the sheet as I shared it a couple of weeks ago in the Everyday Matters, Creative Every Day, and Theme Thursday challenges. Several of you expressed interest and wanted me to post progress pictures. Here is what I have so far...

Step 1-1" squares drawn off on watercolor paper in Moleskine WC book. I dampened the squares out of sequence and added dabs of watercolor, letting the colors merge together and dry.
If you look closely, the dried paint in some of the squares already suggests a subject. They just need refining.

If you dampen joining squares at the same time they will run together and colors you may not want will get into the squares. By the way, you can do these in any media on any surface.

I am doing each square as a seperate little painting, but you could also color the whole page to harmonize, then add your designs. I tend to make things complicated, and sometimes, a little chaotic. :)


Step 2-Still filling in backgrounds...

Step 3-All 40 backgrounds filled in! It's been fun, but now the REALLY fun part begins...Pulling out and creating the images! A few of them are coming along...

Step 4-I added a border of "stitches" with an ultra-fine black sharpie. I'm also adding a frame of "stitches" as I complete a square, so the squares that are completely stitched around I think are done. Right now there are about 5, but if you look closely you'll see in several of the other squares where I've pulled out images in pencil, ready to finish. Others are not so clear just yet, as to what they will share.

I haven't decided yet whether I will cut them apart and use them that way, or leave them as they are, with drawn stitching, and use them for a journal cover. I also considered using a sewing machine to really stitch between them, but I don't know if they'd stay together or not, with the needle perforations. We'll see how it goes...

Anyway, this is as far as I am for now. Looking at the sheet as a whole gives you some idea of how my mind works. Scary ain't it! :)

There are still many images to come, and I'll post the finished sheet as soon as it's done.

4 EDM Challenges, CED, & Theme Thursday

This post includes doodle drawings and sketches for Everyday Matters, Creative Every Day, and Theme Thursday combined. They are numbered whatever challenge they are for EDM, they are all for CED, and they represent a COLLECTION of sketches for Theme Thursday. I've had a blast doing them!

These are only sketches. Some are only line drawings and some have shading that may not be entirely accurate since they were born from doodles and I had nothing to actually go by. The pencil I used did not show up well when scanned, so I digitally darkened them so you could see them better.

Anyway, on with the quirkiness...

EDM #173-Draw a memory... Late 1950's memory of my older cousin, whom I idolized, and her cat Tiger, who was actually solid black. I might add that the figure bears little resemblence to my cousin, but it's a great memory...

A project I started this morning. I drew 40 one inch squares on a page in my Moleskine WC book and proceeded to start filling them in with watercolor. None of these are finished, but I thought I'd share them anyway. I will share the page again when I have them all filled in. I may or may not cut them apart. If I don't, I will add frame lines around them. Each 1" square is will be a finished painting when I'm through.


I'm having a lot of fun experimenting. Hope at least one of them made you smile. :)

I'm Just A Girl...

Just a simple journal page in watercolor, but I like her...

It's how I felt the day I painted her.

You'd never know that I love the Pierrot and Cirque De Soleil faces and costumes would you? Not a fan of the regular circus clowns though. :)

I'm still working on getting my Etsy shop started and any day now I'm going to finish painting the rest of my dog portrait in oils. I'm going to have to stop starting stuff and take some time to finish some things.

I have been doing some linoleum block printing in my journal and I have 3 small acrylic paintings in progress. Acrylic is not my best medium, and doing a whole painting is not easy for me.

Anyway, hope the girl made you smile. :) (Sorry, the paragraphs are seperated on my post, but won't seperate when I publish them)
